My husband got this book for Christmas and says it's a must for any Ranger fan.
Anyway, if you're a Ranger fan, pick this book up and give it a read. He puts the Rangers' acquisition of Sean Avery in the "Ugly" part of the book.
It's a quick read though. This is a good book for Ranger fans.
I disagreed with Zipay on one thing though. At about 150 pages, many of which are photos, I read the entire book in about 1/2 an hour.
I actually enjoyed the "the bad and the ugly" more than "the good". Love him or hate him, Sean Avery turned the Rangers whole season around when the Rangers acquired him, and he played his best hockey in NY.
I go back to the six team league. My first hero was Red Sullivan, I remember Andy Bathgate and the first curve bladed stick and Jacques Plante without a mask. Zipay portrays the old days so vividly that I can smell cigar smoke in the 50th Street Garden and taste the Nedicks orange and grilled hot dogs my dad bought me in the mezzanine.Zipay brings it all to life: from Harry Howell, Worsley, Giacomin, Gilbert, Stemkowski, Messier and Lundquist.This book now proudly sits beside the autobiography of of Andy Bathgate in my library.We already knew that Zipay is THE hockey writer in New York. In a year when the other NY papers used wire services to cover the season opener, Zipay was the only writer in Prague covering the game.This is the Good, the Bad, The Ugly and it is The Best; a must read for anyone who claims to be a hockey fan.
